What is our Internet for everyone programme?

Internet for everyone is our Digital Social Initiative and our commitment to bridging the digital divide across towns and cities in the North West. We donate broadband to schools, charities, community groups, social landlords, and local authorities.

Introduction to The Life Centre

The Life Centre is run by Christine Philips from HIS Provisions CIC organising various activities that benefit the community from a food pantry, free shop, clothes drive, prize bingo and free family meals.

The Life Centre said it’s made a huge impact when Opus Broadband stepped in to offer them free internet as part of their Digital Inclusion campaign.

How partnering with Opus Broadband is helping young families in Blackpool

The Life Centre run a secondary project called “baby Rover” in combination with their other services to help families with young children by helping supply clothing and other baby essentials as just a small faction of the usual cost.

“Baby Rover’s our children’s project.  We help families with children and babies, so we do clothing, they pay £1 .50 for membership and then it costs them a pound for ten items of clothing.”

Positive feedback from the life centre

“It was absolutely brilliant. It was done within a few days.  It was really quick. Some lady came in last week and she said you could get Wi-Fi on the toilet which was quite funny. “

“There are lots of children in schools that we know of where the schools will give them a free laptop because they’ve got to do homework on it, but their parents at home have no internet, so it doesn’t really help. So they tend to tack off a mobile phone or something, as they don’t have internet which isn’t ideal.”

“It’s a tremendous amount of difference, it’s in there and it makes life so much easier. And then things like music practice they were all using internet. We used to have to plug up somebody’s phone, then they’d lose the internet, It was horrendous. Everything is a lot smoother now. It’s totally changed how the building works.”

The partnership is part of Opus Broadband’s ‘Internet For Everyone’ campaign which sees the company donate free broadband connections to homes and organisations that provide vital services to their community.

What we do

We donate 20% of our network coverage to deliver free broadband to families and organisations that need it the most to help close the digital divide.

Why we do it

We believe not enough is being done by the national Internet Service Providers to bridge the digital divide.

Whilst social tariffs have been introduced these are still at a cost to even the most disadvantaged families.

At Opus Broadband we decided we could make a real difference.

As an independent internet provider we are able to go the extra mile and offer our connections completely free of charge to those who would otherwise be without.

We recently visited The Life Centre a charity in Blackpool. To discuss the impact of the Internet for Everyone programme.

How can you get a referral for a FREE Broadband connection

We want to donate broadband to the digitally excluded who really need it. We can only do it with your help, if you are part of a local council, housing association, school or community group. Get in touch today through the link below.
