Boosting Bolton’s Communities – Opus Broadband partnered with Bolton at Home

Connecting Communities: How Opus Broadband and Bolton at Home Are Closing the Digital Divide at Slaterfield Community Centre

In the heart of the Slaterfield community, something powerful is happening—not with grand headlines or flashy campaigns, but with a simple connection that’s changing lives. Opus Broadband, in partnership with Bolton at Home, is helping bring high-speed internet access to the people who need it most, and the results are already transforming how the community connects, learns, and
grows.

More Than Housing—A Hub for Hope

Bolton at Home has never been just a landlord. As a charitable social housing provider, their mission is rooted in empowering tenants and building stronger, more resilient communities. At Slaterfield, that mission comes to life. The centre supports everything from financial aid and mental health to youth engagement and employment services, helping more than 200 people annually into work or training.
But one of the most critical needs in today’s world—digital access—was still a hurdle. Until now.

A Fast, Seamless Installation with Real Impact

With support from Opus Broadband, Slaterfield now boasts a strong, reliable internet connection throughout the centre. The installation process was quick and efficient, covering both the main
hall—used for community events and activities—and the side room, where admin work and UCAN drop-in sessions take place. “The internet is available to everyone here at Slaterfield,” a centre coordinator shared. “From the organisations that use the space to local residents attending different groups, access is clearly signposted and open to all.”

Empowering Through Digital Inclusion

Slaterfield has seen a notable rise in footfall since 2023, with the internet playing a vital role in helping the centre keep up with demand. With 5 computers, 6 laptops, and 7 tablets, digital
inclusion classes are run regularly—offering the community opportunities to build confidence and skills in a digital-first world. “Having access to broadband here has helped a wide range of people in the community—from young people and job seekers to the elderly,” the coordinator continued. “We’re constantly looking for ways to boost our community, and having an internet connection makes the world of difference.”

Beyond Connectivity—A Lifeline

Internet access at Slaterfield isn’t just about speed—it’s about inclusion, opportunity, and equality. Whether it’s applying for jobs, joining a Zoom class, attending a support session, or simply staying in touch with loved ones, connectivity is now a lifeline. For the many organisations that use the space, it means more effective delivery of services. For residents, it means access to essential digital tools that many of us take for granted. From homework help to managing Universal Credit accounts, broadband access is enabling people to live fuller, more independent lives.

A Model for Community Connectivity

The partnership between Opus Broadband and Bolton at Home demonstrates how targeted, community-first investment in infrastructure can have a profound and immediate impact. By
removing barriers to digital access, they’re helping create vibrant, digitally confident communities—starting at the very heart of Slaterfield.
And this is only the beginning.
