Opus Broadband connecting the Bolton community with Internet
“One of the main things we see with a lack of broadband is an increase in isolation. I see a lot of different people and one of the main things is isolation.”

Positive praise from the Bolton Community
.”I think it’s it’s a big thing to shout about, and I think we need to do a lot more to talk about what you guys do. It’s a big deal, honestly. It’s a big deal because being a business and thinking about community it something massive to praise and it’s not common. Everybody nowadays has all got business mindset in in their head and don’t think about community. We really can’t thank Opus enough for this connection.”
Digital poverty effects the most vulnerable
“Lot’s of these big providers do things like social tariffs, which are lower cost in broadband for people who can’t afford it. But they’re still it’s still too expensive, you know, for, like, the majority of people. If you look at Sky, it can be anywhere between 40 to 60 quid a month. It’s very unfair. I wasn’t born in this country. I was born in Nigeria. and I’ve seen poverty.
You know, this country poverty is not poverty. But we’re talking about poverty as poverty is a lack of something that is essential. We’ve been supporting people who don’t have Wi Fi this week with phones.
We’ve got somebody coming tomorrow, actually, to pick up a phone. You know? And and this is a family of 6. The last time he ever had a phone was about 7 years ago. That’s the last time he had a phone of his own. This person is just in his early forties. This kind of thing really breaks my heart because in this 21st century, where some even 9 year old has got a phone, and we’ve got somebody over 40 has not even got a phone. Basic phone. Any phone he said. He doesn’t want a smartphone. He just want a phone to dial a number so he can speak to his children. Then hopefully, by with what we’re doing, we can support and connect. I asked him, what is one of your dreams? And one of his dreams is to have an Internet at home.
People can get connected and and search for a jobs because one of the main things we see with a lack of broadband is an increase in isolation. I go out and see a lot of different people and one of the main things is is isolation. The amount of people that get cut off from not having Internet, especially since corona”
It’s just it’s just massive because everything’s online now.” (sic) – Tunde Olasupo Founder / Co-Ordinator
