Introduction to St. Thomas Church
St. Thomas Church in Christian church located in Blackpool. They offer services and support groups to the local community. We supported them by supplying a fixed wireless broadband only connection entirely free of charge.
How partnering with Opus Broadband is helping connect missionaries from Blackpool in Asia
“It’s opened up loads of opportunities. We’ve got so we use it for doing videos for the services. So we can have a YouTube video on the screen. We can be bit more trendy and up to date. We use the internet for music, disco or any thing they like. We’ve got a missionary overseas and we want to zoom her into the into the service. So she can pray for the church and the church and pray for her wherever she stays. We have a computer screen and in this unit here, somebody sits there and controls the songs that are projected onto the screen. But we’ve realised that now the worship team could do it on their iPads from here.
How Opus Broadband is benefitting the kids in the local Blackpool community
“It helps with youth and children’s work because they’re used to technology. So if you can’t do technology, then you can’t connect with them as as easily. I think having having the internet means that we can reach resources that are outside and connecting to them.
There is one huge thing that we’re hoping to do, which is computer-simulated racing. The kind with a steering wheel and brakes and gears. I think they’re called sim rigs, like a chair with the screens. But that takes more internet than, than what we previously had. So it would have stopped mid race and they’d be irritated. So that’s a hope in the future, we’re looking at the funding for getting that for the youth. Hopefully that encourages some of the more vulnerable youth to build those relationships and contacts.”
St.Thomas church has a broadband connection only. Their phone line is with another provider.
How would you like to be an Opus Partner?
The partnership is part of Opus Broadband’s ‘Internet For Everyone’ campaign which sees the company donate free broadband connections to homes and organisations that provide vital services to their community.
What is our Internet for everyone programme?
Internet for everyone is our Digital Social Initiative and our commitment to bridging the digital divide across towns and cities in the North West. We donate broadband to schools, charities, community groups, social landlords, and local authorities.
What we do
We donate 20% of our network coverage to deliver free broadband to families and organisations that need it the most to help close the digital divide.
Why we do it
We believe not enough is being done by the national Internet Service Providers to bridge the digital divide.
Whilst social tariffs have been introduced these are still at a cost to even the most disadvantaged families.
At Opus Broadband we decided we could make a real difference.
As an independent internet provider we are able to go the extra mile and offer our connections completely free of charge to those who would otherwise be without.
We recently visited The Life Centre a charity in Blackpool. To discuss the impact of the Internet for Everyone programme.
How can you get a referral for a FREE Broadband connection
We want to donate broadband to the digitally excluded who really need it. We can only do it with your help, if you are part of a local council, housing association, school or community group. Get in touch today through the link below.
